That precept is that nobody is culpable for his actions and that we are all culpable for everyone's actions.
I would go further. There is no self. The more I live, the more I come to believe that humanity is corporately responsible for its salvation. Each is indeed his brother's keeper...and more.
Humans are helpless alone. We need each other to survive. We are virtually one organism.
This usually gets lifted eyebrows and sneers about the Borg's Hive on star trek. But I believe there is much theology to support it...the concept of the people as the "Body of Christ" in Christianity, for instance.
A baby is born a virtual Tabula Rasa with some genetic hardware. Society puts the person in there. The person develops via interaction with other people. We are one.
Evolution is not finished with us, I think. I think that in future millenia it will become more and more obvious that humankind is moving towards becoming one cooperative being. When the digital brain interface becomes available, it will be the beginning. Then everyone will plug in and act towards corporate goals...just like every cell of our body cooperates to form our bodies.
This is cast in a bad light...much like homosexuality. But it is not bad...it will be the end of greed, selfishness, and loneliness. Each person will be as intimate with the other as lifelong spouses. People will live in peace and harmony as a single person and devote humanity's efforts towards becoming the very image of the God that we imagine. In fact I would see this as a suitable state to be called "heaven".
Crazy, eh? Maybe. But that's the core of what I'm thinking and it's why I'm having problems with Christianity's personal God.
