Scientists keep making such inroads in unraveling the secrets of the human brain. It seems everyone these days is doing studies involving the functional MRI. If you believe the convergence guys and their geometric progression of knowledge growth, the man machine interface might happen a lot sooner than we expect. And if there's a man machine interface, maybe human consciousness will make the jump from carbon based to silicon based. Think of the possibilities, you could email yourself on an excellent vacation. Perhaps digitized consciousnesses could mingle. No more print or language would be needed for communication. No more feeling cut off or alone; nobody marginalized. Perhaps the minds of all humanity could become intertwined in a giant silicon processor attached to a solar collector, which could be launched into space as the sun cools and our Earth no longer supports biological life.
