Stories like this make me feel happy. Little acts like this have a way of propagating and growing. It's people like this who keep the world from becoming a hell at the hands of so many malefactors. Now hold on, I'm going to quote scripture (I used to be a Bible Thumper and old habits die hard.)
"Go up and down the streets of Jerusalem, look around and consider, search through her squares. If you can find but one person who deals honestly and seeks the truth, I will forgive this city." NIV 1984
So I think the entire world owes a debt of gratitude to people like this. The sportsblog article isn't really what precipitated this post. I just heard form a guy I e-know.
He's a cripple who took in a young man who was begging in the streets. The 19 year old was near death from HIV and TB. Running loose and wild on the streets, there's no question that this lad would be dead now if it weren't for the intervention of of this one just man, who assures that he gets the medical attention and medicines he needs . And the cost was not just a few pieces of silver like it was for the "Good Samaritan" (and this guy is a Samaritan in the Biblical sense, in that he is gay). The young man got much better. I really do not think that the kid was trying to hurt anyone by his actions, but the Samaritan has lost his job, reputation, savings, many personal effects, his fragile health has deteriorated, and he is moving out of his apartment, and has been forced to repeatedly take hand outs from strangers. All this due to the young man's only knowing how to survive in the shadow existence of the streets. And miracle of miracles, this hardened addict street person has started to make progress. I am absolutely certain that this Samaritan would sacrifice himself totally for the benefit of the young man. Quakers; you gotta love 'em. Does this Samaritan have faith in "God", or does he have faith in "Good". I'm of the opinion that it makes no difference. The good that people do is God. That's the only way I can see Him and that's the only thing I can believe in, and it's plenty enough.
